State-dependent Couples Therapy with Kerry Lusignan - 003

State-dependent Couples Therapy with Kerry Lusignan

Kerry Lusignan talks in depth about using various different models in her work with couples. Whether it is the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Stan Tatkin's PACT, or Brent Atkinson's Pragmatic/Experiential Therapy, it is important to work with couples in a way that is state dependent. This means that the couple is able to get into a heightened emotional state similar to how they would when they are arguing at home. Once they are in this state, the therapist can work to guide them to understanding about these emotional responses and be able to see each other in a way they haven't been able to before. The Couples Therapist Couch is the podcast for Couples Therapists to explore the practice of couples therapy. The host, Shane Birkel, LMFT, interviews an expert in the field of couples therapy each week.
